Things You Still Need to Do
VPN is Still Needed to Access Network Drives
Even though the network drive may show up without being connected to the VPN, you still need the VPN signed in to get to open the network drive. If you don't connect to the VPN, you may see an error that says, "An error occurred while reconnecting G: to \\domcl1admdata.ad.wisc.edu\domdata. Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use."
Things You Don't Need to Do Anymore
Novell Logon / OES Login / Network Logon
With the migration, the Novell OES client--the app responsible for the Network Logon window--is not needed anymore since the network drives now map automatically using your NetID when you log into the computer.
Common Hiccups
1. Signing Back into Apps After Successful NetID Login
Because of the way in which the computer is migrated to CAD, you will need to sign back into apps that previously required a login to work--Adobe, Outlook, Teams, Webex, Zoom, etc. Please open all apps that you use regularly and sign into them with YourNetID@wisc.edu as the email account. Webex is the exception to this rule and may require you to use YourDOMUsername@medicine.wisc.edu. Please first try the NetID email address before trying the Medicine email address.
2. My Z-Drive is Missing; I don't see the F- or J-Drive Anymore
Because of rules imposed on us by campus, we don't have a way to map the Z- and J-drives on the computer. Instead, they are now available through the G-drive.
- The Z-drive is now accessible via G:\HOME\[DOM username]
- If your J-drive was different from G:\, then you're going to notice that G:\ looks different than expected. If your team had a custom G-drive provided to you (like UWCarbone, for example), then what you're used to seeing as "the G-drive" is now found under G:\[custom group name]. DOM's G-drive should continue to look as expected
- The F-drive is generally not needed anymore
3. New Outlook Won't Open for Me
Most apps can recover from the migration by having you sign back into them, but New Outlook appears t not to be able to recover itself the same way. To fix this issue, we need to reset the Microsoft "AppData" folder on your computer--the place where the computer stores application-specific data. Please contact the helpdesk to have them help you reset that folder.
