1. What is the CAD Migration, and why is it happening?
The Campus Active Directory (CAD) migration is a campus-wide initiative directed at reducing the number of active user accounts and making the university’s digital services more secure using Single Sign On (SSO). Over the next year, in a series of waves, SMPH IIT will change the login configuration of all Windows and MAC devices (laptops, desktops, etc.) used by the Department of Medicine from our DOM Active Directory to the Campus Active Directory.
2. How will this affect me?
You will need to work with USS/DOM IT and follow all directions during your scheduled day and time for Migration. After the migration, you will now login to your Department of Medicine supported computer with your Campus Net ID and Campus password.
3. Do I have to change my email?
No, this does not mean your email is changing. Whatever email you use now, will be the same email you use after this process.
4. Do I need to know my campus Net ID Password?
Yes, you will need to know your Campus Net ID and password. You will need to be able to type this in many time and it cannot be filled in with a password manager. If you do not know your Net ID password, you will need to contact DoIT at 264-4357.
5. Can I still access my DOM Network Drives - G: Drive, K: Drive and Z: Drive?
You will now see the G: Drive and the K: Drive (if you currently have rights). You will no longer see a Z: Drive. Your Z: drive is actually located here: G:\HOME\your current DOM login ID.
6. How do I log in to the DOM Network drives if I'm working remotely?
The Global Protect VPN client will continue under the new system. By logging into the VPN as you normally would, it will mount the DOM network drives automatically. (That is all you have to do and you are now on VPN AND connected to the DOM network drives).
7. Should I back up any of my data?
Although you shouldn't experience any loss of data, we always recommend backing up important data before a big change like this.
- Backing Up Data: Open File Explorer and note any data in Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and any other places you store data on the computer. Copy any data you'd be unhappy to lose to your Z-drive network drive.
-
Backing up Web Browser Data: It is encouraged to use Chrome as your means to back up we browser data since you get a UW-Madison G-Suite account as part of being employed by the university. Once your bookmarks and other web browser data is in there, please do the following:
- Click on the icon of the person in a circle next to the three dots in the top-right corner of the Chrome window
- Click on Sign in to Chrome
- Type YourNetID@wisc.edu and hit Enter
- Sign in with your NetID username/password and enter the Duo code
- Choose Yes, this is my device
- Click Continue and then Yes, I'm in
