What does Network Jack mean?

A network jack (or ethernet port) is a physical connection point on the wall that allows DOM devices to access the DOM wired network. You don't need to use Wi-Fi when your desktop or docking station is connected to this jack with a network cable.

Since DOM is located in many different buildings (old and new) the appearance of network jacks will vary - but all of them will have an identifying code on the wall plate (we often refer to this code as the jack number or port number).  We use this number to look up the port’s current configuration: for example, it might be disabled (not connected to anything), or it might be connected to another group's network (not the DOM network), or it might not be set up for VOIP.  If configuration changes are necessary, the jack number enables SMPH Infrastructure to make them.

Below are some examples of what a network jacks and a network cable look like.
